Department of Livestock Services (DLS) is a government department, responsible for providing in Bangladesh, such as Veterinary coverage, Development and extension services to meet protein requirements as well as to create employment opportunities through rearing livestock and poultry, and the marketing and processing of their products.

THE DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES (DOF):
The Department of Fisheries is the principal institution for the management and development of fish resources in Bangladesh. The activities of DOF are supported by two other organizations, namely the Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) and the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI).

BANGLADESH FISHERIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE (BFRI):
The fish and fisheries are integral part of the culture and heritage of Bangladesh. The sector is quite significant in the country as it offers an important source of earning livelihood, foreign exchange and food supply. Keeping in view the immense potentials of fisheries sector in providing better nutrition and job opportunities, particularly to the poorest of the poor, and the urgency for optimum scientific utilization of the aquatic heritage, the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was pleased to promulgate an Ordinance entitled “The Fisheries Research Institute Ordinance, 1984” on the 11 day of July 1984. In pursuance of this Ordinance the Institute was established in July 1984. In 1997 the Institute was renamed as Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI).

BANGLADESH LIVESTOCK RESEARCH INSTITUTE (BLRI):
Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) established at Savar are in Dhaka district as an autonomous institution in 1984 with the objectives of identifying and solving problems associated with livestock and poultry; developing techniques and knowledge for livestock and poultry production; training of resource persons for the sector; strengthening research-extension-NGO linkages; and assisting the government in policy decisions. The Institute has six research and support service divisions and two regional stations. The divisions are Animal Production, Animal Health, Poultry Production, Socio-economic and Marketing, System Research, and Support Service.

BANAGLADESH FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATIONA (BFDC):
The Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC), established in 1964, helps to harvest fisheries resources and develop marketing facilities. BFDC has established fish habour, landing and distribution centres, ice plants and processing plants.

MARINE FISHERIES ACADEMY (MFA):
Marine Fisheries Academy (MFA), established under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock for training of personnel for fishing vessels. The center was upgraded in 1983 with the growing demand and expansion of the fishing fleet.
